| Sumac and Mill Creek drainages provide clean water as they flow from the National Forest to the private land below. Mill Creek begins flowing north as it drains off the Grassy Mountain area. Lake Conasauga is an impoundment at the beginning of Mill Creek, high in this drainage. Forest visitors can drive up the Mill Creek drainage on Forest Road 630, reconstructed in 2000, correcting erosion problems along the route. Several bank restoration efforts have been installed by cooperating landowners along Sumac Creek before it enters the main stem of the Conasauga. A large flood prevention lake is located on Sumac Creek and is the centerpiece of recreation for the Cohutta Springs Conference Center. Sumac Creek runs adjacent to a new Murray County Park, known as the Petty Fairy Valley Park, donated by the Petty Family. The beautiful new park offers soccer and baseball fields and provides a vegetation buffer alongside the stream.
