The lower portion of the Conasauga River meanders slowly though the flat valley floors of the area. It contains many agriculture uses and is experiencing some development pressures from new housing growth. This area supported a large and diverse mussel population at one time, but is now one of the areas that is not supporting good mussel reproduction. Aquatic species are very mobile and would benefit from having the entire length of the river in a healthy condition so they can move into other suitable tributaries.
